Mental Health & Wellbeing

Our Position Statement:

At Georgeham Primary School, we are committed to supporting the emotional health and well-being of our pupils and staff.  We know that everyone experiences life challenges that can make us vulnerable and, at times, anyone may need additional emotional support, regardless of their age, race or gender.  We take the view that positive mental health is everybody’s business and that we all have a role to play.

At our school we:

  • help children to understand their emotions and feelings better
  • help children feel comfortable sharing any concerns or worries
  • help children socially to form and maintain relationships
  • promote self-esteem and ensure children know that they count
  • encourage children to be confident and ‘dare to be different’
  • help children to develop emotional resilience and to manage setbacks.

Mental Health Ambassadors

As well as our School Council, Georgeham CofE Primary School have 6 Mental Health Ambassadors who have been elected from their classes to discuss and their share their ideas. The Ambassadors meet with Mr Fry at least twice every half term to help improve mental health across the school. So far, the Mental Health Ambassadors have helped support:

  • Ideas to support break and lunch times
  • Design a well-being room in our school house
  • Design the nurture garden to support mental health

We offer different levels of support:

Universal Support– To meet the needs of all our pupils through our overall ethos and our wider curriculum.

Additional support– For those who may have short-term needs and those who may have been made vulnerable by life experiences such as bereavement.

Targeted support–  For pupils who need more differentiated support and resources or specific targeted interventions such as well-being groups or personal mentors.

Lead staff members:

Kevin Fry: Senior Mental Health Lead

Lucy Rinvolucri: Mental Health and Emotional Well-being Champion

Elaine Trute: Thrive trained Deputy Champion

Ventrus MAT

Ventrus (formerly The Primary Academies Trust) was set up in 2011 by a group of like minded headteachers who wanted to build a stable and secure platform from which they could grow a network of excellent schools.
